Understanding Natural Gas Rates
Your natural gas bill consists of a base rate, unit rate, surcharge, and in some cases, a dual fuel additional charge.
Base Rate
The base rate fee covers the basic cost of maintaining your gas service. This charge does not fluctuate per month, but increases for residential and commercial rates annually on July 1 of each year through 2027.
Unit Rate
The unit rate for natural gas is the cost per unit that the City of Lawrenceville pays for the gas. The Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia calculates the cost per unit of natural gas, including transportation and other charges and bills the City for its usage. The total cost is converted to a rate per 1,000 cubic feet (MCF) of natural gas.
Surcharge
In addition to the unit rate, there is a surcharge of $0.42 per CCF. This surcharge covers the cost of delivering the gas from the City's transportation system to your home or business. The surcharge is the same for all customers, whether you live inside or outside the city limits.
Rate Fluctuations
Rates change monthly based on the market value. Prices are often higher in the winter. Winterize your home and prepare for severe weather to help lower your utility bill.
