A Message from the City Manager
The City of Lawrenceville and Lawrenceville Utilities are aware of the recent power outages affecting certain areas of our community, especially during rain events. We understand how disruptive these outages can be and want to share accurate information about the cause and the corrective actions underway.
The outages are occurring within the high-voltage transmission system that delivers electricity to Lawrenceville Power, the electric division of Lawrenceville Utilities. These transmission lines are owned and maintained by Georgia Power and Georgia Transmission, not by the City of Lawrenceville. While Lawrenceville Power maintains the local electric distribution system that serves homes and businesses, it does not maintain or control the statewide transmission infrastructure that brings power into our system.
Over the past several weeks, Georgia Power has used helicopters and drones to inspect the transmission lines to locate the problem. Although the exact point of failure has not yet been confirmed, they have isolated a section of the line where cracked polymer insulators are believed to be causing the outages. Georgia Power has already begun replacing all insulators within the identified area, and that work is expected to take one to two weeks to complete. Once the replacements are complete, Georgia Power will continue to monitor the system to ensure the issue has been resolved.
In summary, Lawrenceville Power is aware of the consistent outages and is working closely with Georgia Power as they address the problem. The cause of these outages lies within Georgia Power’s transmission system, not within the City’s electric infrastructure. We appreciate your patience and understanding as Georgia Power completes these repairs to restore consistent, reliable service to our community.
